Tshipi Celebrates Mandela Month with Donation of Prescribed Spectacles and Eye Testing for Children.
In honor of Mandela Month, Tshipi demonstrated its commitment to community well-being and education by donating 24 prescribed spectacles to children who are visually impaired and conducting eye tests for over 240 children. The event took place at Itlotleng High School in Bendel Village, showcasing the spirit of unity and care that Nelson Mandela championed.
The celebration was attended by esteemed guests, including the leadership of the Department of Education within the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) District, school management, representatives from the Minerals Council, and Community leaders & members of the local community. Adding to the event's significance, the local radio station, Kurara FM broadcasted live, bringing the community together to witness this noble cause.
Tshipi understands the critical role that vision plays in a child's education and overall development. By providing these spectacles and conducting comprehensive eye tests, the organisation aims to remove barriers to learning and ensure that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Furthermore, the project is aligned to Tshipi’s SLP3 local community economic development goal “whole school development” which entails a holistic approach to education. (you can decide how you reword this).
Speaking on behalf of the leadership of Tshipi, Noks Kwinana, the Plant Manager on site said: "Our commitment to the communities we serve goes beyond our core business operations. We believe in making a tangible difference in the lives of children, and through this initiative, we hope to inspire others to contribute to meaningful causes.".
The school management expressed their gratitude for the initiative, highlighting the positive impact it will have on the students' academic performance and overall quality of life. This initiative marked a significant step in its ongoing efforts to promote health, education, and community development. The company remains dedicated to upholding the values of empathy, generosity, and social responsibility that Mandela stood for.
The Socio-Economic Development Superintendent of Tshipi, Pamela Manyaka said ‘I am deeply moved by the positive impact our initiative will have on these children's lives. Better vision means better learning opportunities, and we are committed to ensuring that every child has the chance to succeed. This event is a testament to our dedication to community upliftment and the values of compassion and support that Nelson Mandela exemplified."
