Tshipi Wraps Women’s Month On a High Note
As women’s month came to an end on 31 August 2022, Tshipi e Ntle Manganese Mining held a celebration function to honor women in the Company. The event also served to revive the Tshipi Women in Mining (WIM) Movement which intends to increase the representation and development of women in the company.
Over 100 elegant women from the Mine and Business partners gathered at Bo-Afe Wedding and Conference Hall in Kuruman where various topics that affect women in the mining industry were addressed under the theme ‘ Women Boldy Rising for Change!’.
Speakers included Kelebogile Maphage, our Laboratory Officer from Mineral Resource Management and Tshipi WIM representative and Shima Ledwaba our Head of Human Resources (HR). Kelebogile presented the mandate of the Tshipi WIM and introduced the new WIM representation across the board from the Head Office, Plant, MRM, Logistics, Finance, HR, Engineering, SHE and Business Partners, while Shima encouraged the women in the company to take responsibility for their career growth and development as the company offers plenty of opportunities. He urged women to align their passions with their professions and be professionals to find fulfillment in their jobs. Furthermore, he reminded them that the company offers plenty of opportunities and support that they should explore.
Guest speakers included Malebogo Mereotlhe, a wellness Therapist from Families South Africa ( FAMSA) Kathu who spoke on Mental health and shared insights on wholistic wellness from a woman’s perspective and Thabile Nkomo, the Managing Director of Tshepa Basadi Project Management and Technical Service Consulting Company in Kathu who spurred women to take a bold stand in the change they desire to see in their careers in the mining industry.
The General Manager Mine, Josua Bekker honored the women for their contribution to the business and further appreciated the diversity that they bring to the business. He acknowledged that much still needs to be done around diversity and inclusivity in the industry and that he is ready to walk the journey with the Tshipi WIM. ‘I am committed to realising gender diversity and inclusion in Tshipi Mine in my capacity as GM Mine and contribute to the increasing attraction, retention, and development of women .’ He said.
